Vows, oaths, pledges.

If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. Numbers 30:2 ESV

Even when God expects generosity from his people, He does not want giving to be difficult from His chosen people. That's why he sets forth the giving requirements indicated in the book of Leviticus and numbers. On the basis of personal giving, he expects the people to respect tithing as it is His way of providing for the needs of the Levites. On vows, oaths and pledges, God freely allows people to decide what they have decided in their hearts to give. God does not want people to give grudgingly but to give generously as they have decided in their hearts to give. So on top on the tithes, whatever offering and vow a person decides to give, God will honor it. But God gives a warning. The moment we make a vow, we and bound to fulfill it unless released by a person over us in authority. The case in point in Numbers 30 is when a daughter under her father's authority hears the vow and opposes it releases her from the vow. A wife, the moment the husband learned about it and opposes it and stops her from it gets released in the process. Which means we should not be hasty in making promises to God. Though we will be blessed by fulfilling our promises. God will hold is to the vows and oaths we set for God. Again, it is better not to vow than to vow and not fulfill it. 18 February
