“Thus you shall keep the people of Israel separate from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness by defiling my tabernacle that is in their midst.” Leviticus 15:31 ESV
When reading the passages from Lev 13-15 one might see the Lord too strict in his dealings with his people. The instructions are so strict that one might find it even burdensome. But these are just special cases. How many people do have leprosy in their time? It is just that God wants them protected from the fact that these things might and can spread. But on the basis of women discharge, we can say that almost all of them, except those past menopause are having this on a regular basis. Well, they just have to deal with it.
If you look at the rules alone, you might find it demanding, but if you look at the motive behind it, then you will understand. The reason God was so strict with them is for the preservation of their lives. He does not want them to die in their uncleanness for it will defile the tabernacle. When we understand the motive behind what is asked, obedience becomes easier. Let me illustrate it this way; you see a swamp and you want to swim and there is a notice that says no swimming in this place. People out of curiosity or rebellion might still want to try and swim there. But if you place there, swimming is prohibited in this alligator filled swamp, don't be the next victim - then following the instructions becomes easier. That is also one of the reasons why God wants us to know Him better, so that we don't just learn his rules and commandments, so that we might understand the reason behind it. The more we know God, the more we understand Him and the reason why He does things and instructs us to do them. 4 February
