Stubborn hearts.

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

“But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels. Psa 82:11-12 ESV

When God’s people don’t pay attention to God’s voice. When they come to a point of rebellion, insubordination, God eventually gives them to their stubborn hearts. There are people who will do things on their own, will not listen to words of warning from people who care about them. They will insist on doing their own thing. Some stay in a wrong relationship. Some sticks to jobs that almost makes it impossible for them to be free on Sundays and have fellowship with other believers. Some gets involved in get rich quick scheme that seems to be so promising but is very dangerous. Then months later when they are in very deep trouble they ask the question “God, why did you allow this thing to happen to me?” For people like this, God did not just tried to stop them once. He spoke to them in many times and in various ways: Through their devotions if they still have one, through the preaching of the word, through their spouse or close friends, through direct word from their pastor or someone in spiritual authority over them. But they just won’t listen. Eventually God gave them over to their stubborn hearts and end up in the misery they are in. It is my prayer that we don’t harden our hearts and listen to God when he is trying to keep us from trouble due to wrong decisions. 3 June
