When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” 2 Kings 2:9 ESV
All his ministry life Elisha just followed and served Elijah. Even after leaving everything behind, we see Elisha pouring water in the hands of Elijah. This literally means serving him in any way that he could even serving him the water that he needs to drink. He was not being treated as a slave but he served with a heart of a servant. Then fast forward to the moment of Elijah going up to heaven, Elisha asked for a double portion of his spirit, and Elijiah was willingly and readily open with the idea of passing it to him. While God is preparing us for our platform, our total attitude must be of total service to the leadership God has placed over our lives. In total submission, total humility, and absolute heart willing to serve, God will eventually give us our time. Enjoy the training time. Don't just treat it as preparation, consider it the ministry itself. Enjoy serving, that is what you and I will do all our lives. 16 April
