“If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you, how will you compete with horses? And if in a safe land you are so trusting, what will you do in the thicket of the Jordan? Jeremiah 12:5
As the top ranking student in your school, you had been given an invitation. Next year, you will receive full scholarship to the best school in the land, where competition is fierce. There you will constantly be pushed to the limit of your discipline, dedication, and abilities. You might not totally stand out yet because in that place everybody is special... or stay in your former school, and because being the gifted student that you are... without pushing yourself to the limit, you can coast and remain in the stop spot. What will you choose? There will be some who will be terrified of the idea, and there will be some who had been dreaming about the opportunity all the days of their lives.
Racing with men is normal, racing with horses is a different story. Being one among the norms is plain and ordinary, competing with champions is another thing. If we shy away from being among the best, we will not be able to discover our full potential. Same is true in life... if you are surrounded by mediocrity, you might settle for less because nobody challenges your full potential. Surround yourself with the best and the brightest, you might not be the center of attraction but you will definitely grow in their presence.
Piece of advice, don't be afraid to be around people better than you. Pick up their brains, observe their work ethics. Ask questions. Be mentored by the skillful and the experienced. Running with horses will break the barriers and limitations. 1 Nov 2018
