And Samuel said to all the house of Israel, “If you are returning to the Lord with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your heart to the Lord and serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” 1 Samuel 7:3 ESV
Samuel told the people what God wants from. If they will return to God, they have to put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among them. When we try to preach God to people, have a made it clear to them that He does not want to be added to the gods or even the idols they already worship? The moment He become Lord, He beomes Lord of all. He can not be added to the list of their gods. The God of Israel must become the only God in their lives. Of course when we mean the God of Israel, we actually mean the only God existent in three persons of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Coming to Gill all of our hearts means willing to forsake everything for God. That if God demands us to surrender ares in our lives, we can do so. It means if he asks us to change the direction of our lives, we do so. It means when He wants us to give up our careers to follow Him if He is calling us to full time vocational ministry, we will be willing to surrender everything. If indeed in the comfort of our lives, He wants us to leave our comfort zone and do world missions, we will be ready to respond. Responding to God means directing our hearts to God and serving Him only. 22 March
