We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 ESV
In the final chapter of Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians, he asked them to respect those who labor among them, and those who are over them spiritually. To those that labor among you, these are people who gave their lives to the work of God. There was no direct directive whether these are full time church workers or volunteers but we are instructed to respect them. You may always like them and how they do things, but we need to respect them. In church, we have different roles and responsibilities. Make the most out of it. Some departments may not be directly working with other departments, but fact remains we are one and we need to respect each other for that. We need to be united and we need mutual respect for those who labor in among us. And give respect to those that are over us in the Lord. Everybody becomes accountable to somebody. There are people God has placed over us for a reason. Even in the garden, Adam and Eve has to be accountable to God. We are to be accountable. There are authority figures in our lives. In the family, in the government, in our jobs, and most specially in the care of our spiritual lives. Let us give them the respect due them. 22 December
