Remember the Lord

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:18 ESV

Here, the people of God are being warned. They are about to the enter the best days of their lives. They are about to enjoy blessings and prosperity beyond their dreams. The Lord is about to bring them to the land of their inheritance. And in the place God has for them, they will see the goodness of the Lord. The warning is to remember the Lord for it is He who gives them the power to get wealth. Prosperity comes from God. Do not get me wrong, This is not prosperity gospel we are trying to preach. The Lord did not come to make people rich. He came to save the people from their sins. He came to destroy the works of the evil one. Prosperity and getting out of poverty is just one aspect of what Jesus had accomplished on the cross. The passage is telling the people not to forget, the emphasis is not to get de-focused nor get the wrong idea that because they were good, nor better, nor strong, nor mighty, nor talented, nor brave, nor wise that they have become successful and prosperous. The true source of success and prosperity is God. And he is faithful to His covenant and promises. 23 February
