If it please the king, let a royal order go out from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes so that it may not be repealed, that Vashti is never again to come before King Ahasuerus. One person’s tragedy may be another’s opportunity. When situations arise, there is something that can come out of it. Here was a queen who defied a king in front of all the people in that time. That in itself will carry a stigma in the reign of the king, but more than that it served as a lesson for all the men and women. First, men should be respected by their spouses, and second, you don’t treat the king like that without consequences. The privileges and perks of a queen had been stripped from her and her position opened for somebody else. How do we treat our God given opportunities? If we treat it with contempt and waste the chance and the opportunity, God will open it to somebody else. If on the other hand, we just remain faithful and prepared, when God opens an opportunity for us, we can just be ushered into it for promotion comes from God not from men. 23 May
