Daniel made a request of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon. But Daniel remained at the king's court. Daniel 2:49 ESV

When there was a crisis, Daniel called for his friends and asked them to pray with him that God will give them the dream and its interpretation. When the answer was given and Daniel was given high honors, gifts, and was made ruler, he did not forget his friends. He asked the king to appoint them over the affairs of the province of Babylon. Here was a guy who does not want credit for himself. When he was promoted, be brought with him those who deserved to be promoted as well. This opportunity revealed who Daniel really was. He was a person not hungry for power. Nor was he a person who only wants power for himself. He was not afraid to let others be promoted to position of significance.

He was so secure in who he was in God that he did not even want to eliminate any potential opposition to any position of power in Dan 2;24 "Therefore Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Bhabylon. He went and said thus to him: “Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will show the king the interpretation.” If Daniel was power hungry all he needed to do was remain silent while the king was executing all his contemporaries and batch mates. And after executing them all, when its their turn to be killed.. he could have said.. "wait, i have the dream of the king and its interpretation." He would not have personally executed them. All his potential rivals for the position of influence and power could have been annihilated. But Daniel choose the high road. He was not hungry for power. He has no intentions of crushing others. He was willing to bring other with him when promotion comes. He knows how to give credit to whom credit is due. May we learn lessons of security and insecurity from him. 27 November 2018
