saying that the king allowed the Jews who were in every city to gather and defend their lives, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate any armed force of any people or province that might attack them, children and women included, and to plunder their goods, Esther 8:11 ESV
There are times that you and I are praying for deliverance and God answers. But sometimes, He does not answer as we expect. We try to put God in a box thinking if God will answer me, He has to answer me this way. When the life of the Jews were in peril in the time of Esther, the easiest way out was to revoke the initial words of Haman. But life is not always as simple as that. It was said then that what the king has ordered, he can not take back. But what God gave them was a chance to defend themselves, protect their lives and families in the process. They were not rendered immune from the attack, but God gave them a way to protect themselves in the process. Instead of sitting ducks, and sheep led to the slaughter, they are now given the chance to prepare for battle, not just to protect themselves in self defense, but even be aggressive with those who will attack them, fight back, kill, take plunder. This is a serious matter, this is not just self preservation, this is God giving you victory in war and the full benefits of it. 25 May
