No condemnation

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 ESV

Condemnation, a very powerful and crippling word. This word is inter related with guilt, and shame. People use it all the time when somebody commits mistakes. They try to keep the offending party down and use it as a weapon against people who sinned against them.

Indeed we understand that sin has consequences. There are times that retribution is even necessary to show that an individual had actually repented nor changed his mind regarding a matter he used to do or used to live by. But there has to come a point in our lives that we must release people who have repented of their sins. We must stop reminding them of their past mistakes. We cannot hold them forever for something they have done in the past. There is now no condemnation for those in Christ. This has to go both direction. We must be released from condemnation and accept the fact that God freely forgives us and we are no longer under the hold of sin. At the same time, we must release other people in the process. Easier said than done, but we must forgive people even when it is hard. Give them the chance to make it right and not be under the feeling of condemnation from something they want to leave behind and repent from. 9 December
