“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV
Too many people glory in the past they can not live in the present. Remembering the Plot from the original The Incredibles movie. Bob Parr was so caught up in the glory days of his hero work he can not live in the present - wishing he could relive the glory days. When God commanded the audience of Isaiah to remember not the former things, He was not saying to literally forget about the past with its lessons. History warns us not to repeat the mistakes of the past and gives us a glimpse on how people succeeded and learn lessons from it. The reason God said to not consider the things of old is because He is doing a new thing. God had been working then and He continues to work today. Indeed, He has done great things then... but He is still in the business of doing great things today.
