When God gave the instruction for judgment to be executed, he started in the sanctuary. He wants justice and cleansing to start in His sanctuary. Not because that was the place they gather, He simply wants to put a benchmark. The moment i clean house, i will start on the inside. Not because people were in the sanctuary, they were automatically spared. each one is responsible for his own sins. We won't generalize also that those in the sanctuary are hypocritical liars. God was simply saying, if i will clean house, i will start inside my own. Then outwards. Here nobody was spared old men, young men, maiden, children, women. Except the one on whom is the mark... What a contrast in days to come. If you are a student of the bible and eschatology, you will know that in the seven years of tribulation, those with the mark will be the ones that will be doomed. They are the ones who accepted the mark of the beast... here the ones marked are the ones who were spared. The condition of their hearts gained them the marks, those who sigh, groan and are appalled by the sins of his fellow people were the ones marked for safety. They lived among the same nation.
