Loyalty.

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

But Joab said, “May the Lord add to his people a hundred times as many as they are! Are they not, my lord the king, all of them my lord's servants? Why then should my lord require this? Why should it be a cause of guilt for Israel?” 1 Chron 21:3 ESV

When Joab knew that David was making a bad decision, he did not bring the issue to another people. He did went to the other generals and say, the king is making a wrong decision. He is going to bring us trouble by having the men counted. He went straight to David. He told David the decision is wrong, that it will be a cause of guilt to all Israel, and when David still made the wrong decision, Joab obeyed the king. We need the same type of people today. People who will confront us to our face. People who will challenge us if we are doing things that honors God or things that will destroy us as a person or as a leader. But people who are loyal. And people who are submissive. (Am i saying we follow blindly if we are being led to sin? No that's not what i mean, there was no command "count not the army") It was a bad call trying to put your trust in numbers. Trying to put your trust in the might (numbers) of your fighting men because the victory always comes from God. Again, we need loyal men, not opportunist what will magnify one wrong move of a leader to get the loyalty of others. Only insecure people do this, magnify that mistakes of others to make themselves look good. When people do that, it just shows their insecurity and hunger for power. That is not kingdom thinking, that is a thinking marked with rebellion. May God raise more loyal, truthful, and submissive leaders around our lives. 30 April
