But Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of Aaron their father. Numbers 3:4 ESV
Here, what happened to Nadab and Abihu was reiterated. The tragedy that happened when they offered strange fire was retold. Why? Because God wants us to be warned of its lesson. In life, we do not have the privilege of learning everything by experience. Some of life’s lessons can be best learned through the failures and learning experience of others. Indeed some of life’s lessons can be learned by experience, others can be learned from the experience of others. In His grace, God allowed even the failures of other people to be recorded in Scriptures. He did not try to cover the weaknesses and failures of men and women used by God in Scriptures. The reason is so that you and I can learn from their lesson and not go through the pain they had to go through and suffer the consequences they had to suffer in their failures. 9 February
