With upright heart he shepherded them and guided them with his skillful hand. Psa 78:72 ESV
Leadership with character and ability. Many leaders today possess one but not the other. Blessed are organizations, institution, nations, and even churches that have leaders who possesses both. David was a king with an upright heart. Did that made him perfect? No. Scripture was even brutally honest to expose his adultery and murder, but David knows how to repent. He knows how to ask God for forgiveness and have a turn around in his life. He knows how to get his heart right with God. For until we have our hearts right with God, we can never fully lead properly. Until we have set our hearts right with God, we can not be right with ourselves. Living in sin and trying to hide it will eat people up one day at a time. Making it right and setting it right brings liberty and freedom. Again let me say, leaders needs skills and ability to lead. Some people really have good hearts, but they don’t have the skills of leadership. They have poor organizational skills, they have poor relational skills, they are afraid to confront people and deal with situations, thus they can not lead people well. Skills can be learned. Though some people are generally gifted with leadership traits than others, the skills to lead can still be learned. Skills can be acquired through training, education, mentoring, being on someone tutelage. Character on the other hand need to develop in time. It takes season to develop a Godly character. To lead, we need both. May God graciously help us have integrity of heart as we continue to improve the skills of our hands. 2 June
