Know and serve God.

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever. 1 Chron 28:9 ESV

David charged his son Solomon the king to know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind. He was not charged to serve the people first, but God first. If we want to serve the people well, we need to serve God first and foremost. The number one priority in what we do is to know God and serve him, The people are a distant second. Too many people try to please people, serve people, get the approval of people that they have compromised the service of God in the process.

Like David, we are also commanded to serve with a willing mind. Here was a man of wisdom, who will eventually become even wiser because he asked God wisdom but he was instructed to have a willing mind. A mind willing to be taught, a mind willing to learn, a mind willing to unlearn, a mind willing to accept the words and instructions of God and lean not on his own understanding. May we serve God the same. 2 May
