And she said to the king, “The report was true that I heard in my own land of your words and of your wisdom, but I did not believe the reports until I came and my own eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not told me. Your wisdom and prosperity surpass the report that I heard. 1 Kings 10:6-7 ESV
At what extent have we spent to invest in wisdom? Have things become so readily available for us that it molded us to get everything in life for free without even thinking about. Because of the readiness and the availability of materials and resources due to the internet, somehow at the back of our minds, if we can get it for free let us do it. Here the Queen of Sheba heard about the wisdom and fame of Solomon. The stories that were circulating about him was so intriguing that she has to see it for herself. She did not care how much money would be spent on it. She wanted to be sure. She was making an investment on wisdom, she was making an investment on herself, and if the report were true and if she could improve in the process, its not just the Queen who will benefit but her entire kingdom. By the way apart from the travel expenses and all she came with gifts. She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue, with camels bearing spices and very much gold and precious stones. And when she came to Solomon, she told him all that was on her mind. She was not disappointed. In fact she said after observing everything, she said not a half have been told of your wisdom. The stories may be too good to be true for others, but in fact, it has been watered down already. Practical questions for you and me: What was the last book you have read?
