And when he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I refrain?” And he answered, “Go up and triumph; they will be given into your hand.” But the king said to him, “How many times shall I make you swear that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?” And he said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And the LORD said, ‘These have no master; let each return to his home in peace.’” 2 Chron 18:14-16
There are people who have kept their integrity and their words too intact that whenever they speak everybody believes them. There are people on the other hand whose words have very little value that you even have to make them swear. Micaiah was one who is believable but the king thinks he almost always speaks against him. Here he was asked to swear not because he was unbelievable, but because he said something similar to the words of the other prophets. And what he was asked to swear, he told them the truth, that all Israel was scattered on the mountains.
In a world that places little value on words, promises, vows, integrity - may you and i be a voice of integrity around us. That when we speak, people believe and people listen. We may not always be speaking nor loud, but the moment we open our mouth people want to hear what we have to say because we have kept our integrity. 9 May
