And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.[a] Ezekiel 36:26-27 ESV
True transformation only comes from God. Although our willing participation needs to be there, without God in the picture, it will all fail. Here the people who had turned their backs on God will come back. And in their coming back, God says He will give them a new heart. Instead of fixing the hardened heart, instead of healing the broken heart, instead of fixing the calloused heart, God had something better, He will give them a new one. This new heart, coupled with the Spirit of God in us, will help us walk the path we have strayed from. When people return to the Lord. There is always a genuine opportunity to start afresh and do it right. He will cause us to walk in his statutes. It is not just a matter of will. It is more of a matter of submission and surrender. We don't just will ourselves to change. We surrender and yield to God for change. We don't just will ourselves to obey, we allow God's spirit to move our hearts to follow Him.
