Heart after God.

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa began to reign over Judah, and he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom. And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as David his father had done. 1 Kings 15:9-11 ESV

Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall in the book of Kings and Chronicles. Some will reign for decades some for years only. What matters was what happened during the reigns of the kings during those times. Asa was a classic example. He reigns forty one years in Jerusalem. And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as David his father had done. David had been dead for generations, but when somebody did the right thing, they were remembering the legacy that David left behind. Here was a king that did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. We know David had failures, we knew he made bad decisions in his lifetime. There were mistakes, but he repented of them and continued to walk with God. His family was not the best example to follow in raising children but he lived with the consequences of it and still and will always be remembered as a man after God’s own heart. We may not be living perfect lives. But we should be living lives right with God. We may have sins and failures, but we must not continue to dwell on them. Let us come to God to ask for forgiveness and move forward. Walk in his ways and leave a legacy that will outlive us. That even after several generations later, they know that in our time we went hard after the heart of God. 12 April
