The reason for David's success? The Lord, the God of hosts, was with him. This is true for David and can be said for all people. True success and greatness comes from God and acknowledging his presence. When we know that God's presence makes us great, the temptation to be proud and arrogant can be balanced. How can we be filled with pride if we know it was not us bringing the success and greatness but God's presence with us. So we understand, the moment the presence of God departs success departs. But people may ask, how about today? The presence of the Holy Spirit does not depart as in the Old Testament days. The Holy Spirit remains among his people. That is the theological truth, but some followers of God, even though the Holy Spirit is with them still tries to do things in their own strength and abilities. Instead of depending and acknowledging the work of God in their lives, they try to do it on their own. God will bless the work of our hands. While we do everything in our power to please and serve the Lord with excellence, true success only comes from God. 1 April
