Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left. 2 Kings 22:1-2 ESV
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign. Everybody in the kingdom who had common sense knew that this man at age eight was not leading the country. Either the parents were telling him what to do, or one of his advisers is telling him how to run his country. He had positive influence in his life but he made the final decisions. He may have been surrounded with voices left and right, but beginning to understand that his words are now law, even for an eight year old can be very sobering. Think about. When other kids at that age are simply playing outdoors, you are making choices to get rid of the detestable things happening in Judah. While other kids are not concerned about these things, Josiah was running a kingdom. You and I will never be fully ready when God opens a door for us, but His grace will be made available when he opens door for us as well. 22 April
