War - something that kings would avoid if they can. But it is something they will have to face when it presents itself as unavoidable. In the Book tuned movie Lord of the Rings - the Two Towers. Theoden King would not risk his people to open war but as great rider, warrior, heir Aragorn said "open war is upon you, whether you risk it or not." Waging war against kingdoms in itself is bloody, waging war without the favor of God is a terror to behold. How can nation win a war when Gd had decreed for it to lose? it can never win.
When God prophesied this to his people, he was not trying to challenge them to defy him from their upcoming doom. He was trying to tell them come back to your senses and repent. Stop ding evil and stop turning your backs on God instead turn to Him. Call to him for help. For in the time of open war, the only ally that matters is God. It does not matter if you are fighting on your own against the superpowers of your days if you are on God's side. otherwise, it is an exercise in futility.
