The disciples of John reported all these things to him. And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” Luke 7:18-19 ESV
An instance of weakness nor unbelief, nor lack of trust does not define your whole being in the sight of God. Here was John the Baptist, while in prison, knowing that any moment he can face execution asked his disciples to go to Jesus and ask “Are the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” In the assessment of people on the out side, this is a demonstration of lack of faith, unbelief, and an entire commentary of ideas, and presuppositions can be made by the question that John sent to ask Jesus. But to God who knows all things even the motives of men, he could dismiss the question because at the later part of the same chapter. After John’s disciples left Jesus very words were Luke 7:28 “I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” John’s legacy, name, character, dedication was not negated by one act of weakness. God who is full of grace and mercy does not disqualify us from one moment of weakness nor unbelief nor lack of courage nor discouragement, nor frustration. You and I are more than our weakness. God’s grace is more than our weaknesses. 2 Nov
