You shall not be partial in judgment. You shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be intimidated by anyone, for the judgment is God's. And the case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.’ And I commanded you at that time all the things that you should do. Deut 1:17-18 ESV
Leaders are appointed to provide leadership and service to the people. Here, they were instructed no to be partial. They have to judge fairly and honestly. They should not be intimidated with money nor power. They must hear the plea both of the small and great, both the rich and poor. They have to make judgment call without bias, without prejudice, and without intimidation. If a decision had to be made, the only consideration that is primarily to be considered is "is this the right judgment that will be acceptable before GOD?" The fear, favor, and the approval of man must never come in the way they make decisions. Moses was so confident they can make the right choices if they use their positions the right way. In case the situation is too hard, they can bring the case to him, who will decide on their behalf. We can see people being empowered to serve, empowered to lead, with the job descriptions and limitations, and his leaders knowing that when they need help, Moses is there for them. 21 February
