For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 1 John 2:16 ESV
Do not love the world or the things of the world. The things of the world are characterized by the following, the desires of the flesh. These are earthly desires that contradicts the desire of God for our lives. These includes immorality, adultery, fornication, drunkenness, pornography, gossip, and the likes. These are desires of the flesh. Sinful desires that needs to be in submission to the authority and saving power of Christ. Another mentioned is the desires of the eyes. These talks about things that would entice you when you see them. It might be being envious of someone's new car, someone's new promotion, someone's new girlfriend. It may be the monster greed creeping on the inside saying i want more of what i see. Why can't i have what other people have. Why can't i get what other people get. And the pride of life. The feeling of entitlement. I deserve this. Why am i not giving the best seat. Why is my parking space not reserved. Why am i not listed first. Why is my name not on top of the billing? We are warned to stay away from all of these because there is a real temptation for Christians to be confronted and tempted with these things. Keep being close to Christ. God will be there for us. He will provide a way out. He had been tempted and never sinned, He will help us overcome. 30 December
