I am very dark, but lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon. Do not gaze at me because I am dark, because the sun has looked upon me. My mother's sons were angry with me; they made me keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept! Songs of Solomon 1:5-6 ESV
How many of us can relate with this, other people have made us keeper of the vineyards, but our own vineyard we have not kept? Here was a perfect example, she says do not gaze upon me because I am dark, because the sun has looked upon her. She can confidently say she is still very lovely but she has gone dark. The beauty is still there, but there are aspects of her life that she had neglected. Why? Because she was trying to do what others had pushed her to do. Isn’t it the paradox of life. We are too busy doing what others push us to do, instead of being to busy doing what God has called us to do. Some are even too busy doing the things the ministry required or demanded them to do, but not actually doing what God called them to do. We can be overwhelmed with activities that we are not primarily called to do. Even the early church delegated responsibilities of taking care of widows because God primarily called them to the ministry of prayer and the Word. May we not neglect our walk with God and our purpose in God while doing some or even most of our responsibilities in life. August 6
