Discipline.

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27

Paul just referred to the parallelism of life and race, that even though all runners run, only one gets the prize. With that thought in mind, he forces and disciplines himself to run to obtain the prize. This is the notion and the attitude we must possess. We need to keep ourselves in discipline, because we need to be running against the best version of ourselves all the time. There should be no chance of let up. There should be no excuse not to do the necessities while dealing with the urgent. Stop comparing your discipline and training to that of others. We are each called to our tasks and responsibilities. Let me put it this way. The police force don't have the same discipline as the navy, they do not have the same discipline and training as the marines. The ones demanding tougher training does not complain about it. They understand the demands of the work. We must not compare how we discipline ourselves with how other people lead themselves. If we are in leadership in church, we can lead those under our authorities inside the church, but do not give space nor room for comparison. It will keep your from your best the moment you start making comparisons. 12 December
