Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “There will be peace and security in my days.” Isaiah 39:8 ESV

Hezekiah did not understand the words of the prophecy, that is why even if the Lord had already prophesied his destruction, him being colonized, his people being carried off in a far away land, and the treasure in the palace taken away he still says the word spoken is good. Let me just clarify some things here. The word of the Lord is always good. But it has to be understood properly. When God sends warning and upcoming destruction, he is expecting the people to seek Him, repent of their sins, and turn their hearts back to God. It is not a word of doom that has no way out. Even Nineveh with all the sins and prophesied end was spared when they repented. We need to understand what God is saying, for failure to understand God's word properly will cause us to miss God's warning, guidance, and direction. May God graciously help us to diligently seek and properly interpret Scripture in order not to miss what God is actually saying to us. 18 August
