Confront Sin.

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

The Lord said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face? 11 Israel has sinned; they have transgressed my covenant that I commanded them; they have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen and lied and put them among their own belongings. Joshua 7:10-11 ESV

Here, the people of God experienced defeat from their enemies, and the event was starting to discourage Joshua because he is new as their leader. Here God told him directly. Stop falling on your face, deal with the sin of the people. There are times in life and ministry that we think that the solution is to pray more. When all the while the solution that God says was to deal with the sin of the people. I remember the words of Mike Murdock when he says you will never change what you are not willing to confront. Here, Joshua was commanded by God to deal with the sin of Israel. I am not undermining the power of prayer. That is a whole topic in itself. But to this particular event, God wants the leader Joshua to deal with the sin that the people had been involved in. As leaders, we need to have the courage and guts to confront the sins in the lives of our people. Just as you and I need to be courageous to deal with our own sins. 6 March
