Chance for every generation.

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

And as soon as the royal power was firmly in his hand, he struck down his servants who had struck down the king his father. But he did not put to death the children of the murderers, according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where the Lord commanded, “Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. But each one shall die for his own sin.” 2 Kings 14: 5-6 ESV

Just a background. Amaziah, son of Joash, is now king of Judah, he succeeded his father after a conspiracy to kill him had been successful. Amaziah was not part of this plot of having his father killed, but being next in line, the kingdom was transferred to him to follow the rule of succession. What he did first was establish the kingdom. He wanted to make that he has the following of Judah before anything else. After, this he brought to justice what happened to his father. He ordered the execution of the two who struck down the king. Why? if they did it to my father, they might do it to me as well. We was trying to protect himself from the safe fate as that of his father. But in accordance with the words of the Lord, he did not put to death the children of the murderers, according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses. How do see people today? Do we treat them because of their parents? Do we brand them by what their ancestors have done? Or we give each generation a chance because of the word of God? 19 April
