So he changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands and made marks on the doors of the gate and let his spittle run down his beard. Then Achish said to his servants, “Behold, you see the man is mad. Why then have you brought him to me? Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to behave as a madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?” 1 Samuel 21:13-15 ESV
Here was a man who was to be the next king in Israel. Now he was pretending to be insane to escape for his life. How low can you go? You know in your heart that God wants you to be the next king of Israel but your reality is far too distant from what God called you to do and to be. How do you deal with the disparity? Instead of sitting and ruling on the throne, you are pretending to be a madman for self-preservation. Instead of risking your life trying to defend the people in the kingdom, you are now just trying to save your own life. Instead of the one being ascribed to with the song Saul has slain his thousands, David his tens of thousands. Here, he was now acting like a madman. With saliva drooling in his face and beard. How far can you see yourself from what God called you to be? Let us look ourselves in the mirror today and honestly evaluate where we are and where God called us to be. If there is such disparity, we need to go back to God and trust Him for his plans and purposes. If we are certain of God’s calling, we need to keep trusting him even if we are at the lowest point of our lives. Even when the circumstances are too far from what God called you to do. Even when things seem impossible, do not quit or stop believing. God can still bring you to the place of your calling. 27 March
