And he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, and put out his hand and took it, and with it he struck 1,000 men. And Samson said, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of a donkey have I struck down a thousand men.” As soon as he had finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone out of his hand. And that place was called Ramath-lehi. Judges 15:15-17 ESV
Something that becomes a disease to many people, they can not move on or move forward from a very powerful experience with God. They want to linger so much to feel the moment, to savor the experience. Enjoy it, thank God for it, learn the lesson, then move on. Life does not stay on pause mode, it will continue and will not wait for us. Some will go through this scenario and will end up putting the jawbone in a Museum with the caption “Jawbone used by Samson, they one that struck a thousand men”. Or they will patent the jawbone this way. “Weapon of mass destruction, 1000 kills guaranteed” in the hands of any able warrior. The error there was thinking that the weapon did the thing, or that the weapon in the hands of an able man guarantees victory. But the true secret of the success in this story was when the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon Samson and empowered him. The power coming from the Spirit of God was the true source of victory here that is why it can not be manufactured, nor reproduced, nor replicated. This was a one time event in the life of Samson that was why after it was finished he threw away the jawbone in his hands without having difficulty parting with it. He knew without the power of the Holy Spirit that jawbone is just an ordinary bone. And even without it, when the Holy Spirit empowers him again for something, he can pick or use anything and God can still make use of it. Not everything that worked can always work the same way. Keep trusting the Spirit of God for guidance and direction. Trust in God not the tools he allows us to use. 17 March
