“As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear,” says the Lord of hosts, Zechariah 7:13 ESV
Growing up, one of the stories we learned from our parents and books is entitled "the boy who cried wolf". After losing credibility, nobody believes him anymore and nobody wants to listen to him. How painful will it be for anybody calling for help with no one responding. So it is with the story, the fault comes from the boy. That when the real wolf arrived, nobody cares. He pushed them away so many times, they have closed their ears and hearts. May we not come to the same point with God. He had been calling, may we respond and listen to him, so that when it is our time to call, God will always be there, not just to hear but to answer our call for help. Here in Zechariah, judgment had been decreed, Even if the call, He would not hear. Not that God run out of mercy, it was just too late for some. Let us try to go back in the days of Noah, mercy was there the whole time. The whole time they were building the ark, they were telling the people a flood is coming. This ark/boat will saved them from certain annihilation. They need to change their ways and turn to God. But they refused to believe. After the doors were shut and rain and flood came in. It does not matter if they sincerely call for help. It does not matter even if they sought them in tears. It was too late... Dear friends, while it is not too late, respond to God's call and voice.
