Better Together.

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come and help you. 2 Samuel 10:11 ESV

Joab has selected the best of his fighting men and he set them out against the Syrians, the rest of the army was under the command of his brothers. He told his brother, if the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, we will do the same. He was an experienced warrior. He was one on the most reliable men of David. Yet here he is, trying to re-assure his brother that even though we are on the different portions facing different enemies in war, we are in this together. The moment we need help, we will call for it. And the moment you need our help, one signal and we are on your side. It does not matter if we have our own enemies, we can still take on yours. It will not be an additional burden, do not look at it as making it harder for us, for if placed in the same situation, we will also call to you for help.

People in this generation are also faced with life’s individual battles. Each one of us has our own struggles. Each one of us has his own battle to face, enemies to confront, ground and inheritance we need to defend. But always remember, we are always better together. We may be strong on our own, but with synergy, we will be stronger. Do not be afraid to ask for help, do not be proud to say I can do it on my own. You and I are surrounded by people who, even while fighting their own battles will rush to our aide on our first call for help. And may we extend the same commitment to those around us we consider brothers. 3 April
