Be Holy for I am holy.

Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy. Leviticus 19:2 ESV

God wants his people to be holy, for He himself is holy. He is not requiring something from his people that he did not perform first. Though people may argue, when this portion of Scripture was written, Christ has not yet come in the flesh. He was still in heaven with all his glory, but that is due to our concept of time. But for God, He was the lamb who was slain before the foundations of the word. Not only was He the lamb who was slain, He will be the perfect sacrifice to be slain. Tempted in every way but He did not sin. Because of it, He can ask us to be Holy, because it can be done. Someone did it. He paved the way for the rest of humanity. Of course, no one can do it on their own capability. It is only by grace and by the power of the Spirit of God that you and I can live holy lives. Even our initial position of holiness or justification before God came by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and nothing else. It is never by works, it is never by our man’s own choice alone. In fact, the more we die to ourselves and allow Christ to be made alive in us can we truly live in holiness. We are called to live holy lives. Instead of making excuses that it is almost impossible to do so, let us ask God to help us live holy lives for the glory of His name. 6 February
