Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there—is it not a little one?—and my life will be saved!” He said to him, “Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. Genesis 19:20-21 ESV
How did it end to this? At first, Lot was very successful with his livestock that the land could not hold Lot's and Abraham's flock. Abraham gave him the chance to pick the land that he wanted. In his arrogance and greed Lot choose Sodom, thinking it was well watered and that it looked like the perfect place. But oh, was he dead wrong. Fast forward to the now. Lot was now trying to flee for his life. Trying to survive, with his wife (which turned into a pillar of salt). His daughters and the (sons-in-law) who were supposed to marry his daughters, but they thought he was joking. No flocks to carry with him along the way, no livestock, no cattle, no sheep, no wealth to carry with him, so servants. They were now simply trying to flee for survival.
When the livestock of Lot had been growing that quarrel arose between Lot's and Abraham's servants began, Lot should have taken the steps of humility. It was Abraham who took the high road. In humility he allowed Lot to choose whichever he wanted. To which Lot gladly agreed to, as if he was entitled to it. But just after Lot made his choice, God told Abraham look to the north, south, east, and west. Everything you see, i will give to you. If we know how to handle God's prosperity, He can bring us more. If at the first sign of success, financial increase, prosperity... pride, greed. arrogance is starting to creep in to our lives. Failure is just knocking on the door for pride comes before a fall.
