Anointed. Ordained. Consecrated

Writer's picture: Michael CustodioMichael Custodio

And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. Exodus 28:41 ESV

As for Aaron and his sons, Anoint them, ordain them, and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. If we will try to apply the principle in modern times, people who have a heart to follow and serve God in ministry must understand the need of these three things. Anointing; this is God's enabling power for people to fulfill a task. This is God's enablement that will provide the necessary skills for the task to be done. God will not frustrate us in our life missions. He will not call nor assign us to a task that we can not do or we are not equipped to do. Second is ordain them; to be decreed upon. this is also where we get the root for ordination. When after seeing the fruit of God's calling upon a person, we confer or decree, or we ordain them to the ministry. This is not something we treat lightly, this is something we don't just confer on people. When their lives have exemplified God's call and fruit of character and ministry is evident in their lives, we or higher authority in the ministry ordains them to the cause of Christ. And last is consecrate them, to set them apart for a holy and higher purpose. Indeed God will give the skills and ability, he allows us to bear fruit in what He called us to do, but consecration needs our participation. Only God made us holy, only the blood of Jesus cleanse and made us new, but we have a daily decision to follow God and pursue righteousness. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 23 that the shepherd leads us in paths of righteousness for His name sake. As God guides us in paths of righteousness, we need to walk in it. It is a daily decision to live for Christ not just to serve Christ. May as servants of God, remember our need to be anointed, ordained, and be consecrated. 26 January
