“Blessed be the LORD who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant. 1 Kings 8:56 ESV
When Solomon said that the Lord has given them rest it does not mean they were all resting and doing nothing. What he was referring to was the availability of peace in the land, They have rested from waging wars against the enemies of Israel. Instead of all or most of their time spend in war, bloodshed, and the likes, the work of their hands have now focused on building and setting things up not tearing things down. It was not like these people were simply lying on their backs and sleeping all day long, not that type of rest. Rest is given so you and I can work more. Rest is not given so you and I can retire young. Rest is given so you and I can serve God better. Also, God had faithfully delivered all that He has promised. The promised that goes back to the time of Moses are still being fulfilled in the lifetime of Solomon. He was saying that God was not just the God of the people of the past. He is the same God you and I worship today. His faithfulness endures forever. He can be trusted. He is reliable. He is dependable. 10 April
