And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14
For so long, people have tried to look for rest in all the wrong places. Some think that when they have received the fulfillment of their dreams, they will have rest. Some think that by earning substantial amount of money, they will have rest. Some assume that when all their kids graduate from college, they will have rest. Some even think that when they settle down and get married, they will have rest. Some think that after the mortgage for their house and lot had been fully paid, they will have rest. All of these assumption come from the idea that rest is something you will have, upon achieving a destination in life. This is far from the truth. Rest is not something we acquire on our own. True rest is given by God. Based from the above verse, the presence of God that goes with us will be the one that gives us rest. So even while in life’s journey, trying to pursue our God given dreams, even while in the process, God can give us rest. Rest does not only happen when we reach our destination. Rest is something God offers even along the way. 28 January
