Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psa 73:25-26 ESV
The psalm of Asaph declares whom have I in heaven but you. It is not the mansions, it is not escaping the eternal flame of hell nor the lake of fire, it is not the immortality of the glorified body, it is the presence of God in heaven that we really need and we really want. His confession is “there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you”. I don’t know about you, but if I will be honest, there are so many things on earth I desire: and some of them might not even be in line with the desire and the will of God for my life: riches, honor, favor, luxury, privileges, nice house, big family car, comfort, happy family, vacation with the kids, good health, etc. But all the things I just listed will not provide any lasting joy in life. All these are temporal, only God is permanent. Everything built on earth remains on earth, everything built for the kingdom outlives us. Like Asaph, If God is all we have, then we already have all that we need. If we have God, we will be fully satisfied. If we have God, even when our flesh and hearts fail, He will be our strength and portion forever. 1 June
