But as one was felling a log, his axe head fell into the water, and he cried out, “Alas, my master! It was borrowed.” 2 Kings 6:5 EV
The intention was to build for themselves a place of shelter, but when the axe fell into the water, the initial reaction was Alas, my master! it was borrowed. Alas, an exclamation expression grief, pity or concern. Why? because it was borrowed. In those days, people have integrity. When they borrow something, they have full intention to return what they borrow. Something so unlikely with people in this current generation. They borrow, with no intentions to return what they borrow. They borrow a book and they don't return it. They borrow tools from co laborers or neighbors, even when they have finished they do not immediately nor intentionally return the borrowed item. And some borrow money knowing they do not have the capability to return what they borrow. May you and I have the resolve that if there is something you and I need, we will ask it from the Lord. If and whenever you and I borrow something, make sure we return them properly. Somebody lend you a vehicle return it full tank and car washed. Somebody lend you a Karaoke machine for a birthday party. return it after the event. You borrowed a tool from your neighbor to fix something in your house. return it immediately. Like what happened in the story. Elisha made it float so the borrower can pick it up, use it and return it to the owner. 17 April
